Spring 2012 and New Worms Moving In!

I've been lax about my worm composter - it has been sitting empty for some time but today is the day - I have worms on the way and am preparing my worm condo anew!

Shredded newspaper, soil, scraps, leaves - all going in now so when the worms arrive (in about 3 - 5 days) they will be able to get right in to a moist, happy place. I'm sure they'll be hungry, this time they're traveling in a Priority Mail box all the way from PA! My local source is no longer available so I ordered 1000 Red Wigglers from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm

I learned the last go round that it's all about balance. Enough moisture but not too much, enough scraps but not too much. I fed my group often but didn't remove worms and toward the end of the last experiment I had too many worms in the composter. This time I'll be working harder at adding trays at the right time (to encourage them upward into new territory) and I'll be removing worms periodically to add to my outdoor compost pile and garden.
